Thinking about moving up to a 10k run or looking to improve your 10k time this year? The 10k is one of the most popular distances to train and race for so to help you during these challenging times, we have launched a new training programme - ending with a virtual 10K event - with exclusive access to a dedicated performance coach to support you on your journey: Virtual Coach.
Runners are not the same – they have different goals, motivations and preferences for how they want to run. It's personal. Some people run for fitness, some for weight loss, some like to keep it fun. Everyone is different and that's why England Athletics Virtual Coach supports your running journey whatever your experience, ability or goals.
At the end of the 12 week programme, you'll be invited to a virtual 10k competition just for your group followed by a week of recovery sessions - a total of 14 weeks including 2 weeks for free.
Training Plans and Expert Support
By registering to become part of the Virtual Coach community, you will receive a training plan, designed by your coach and delivered to you through an interactive training calendar for every day of the week. We will also teach you how and when to adapt your training based on changing circumstances or commitments.
Performance Coaches and Experts
You'll get exclusive access to a dedicated England Athletics performance coach, as well as experts who will support you through your running journey and an extensive resource library.
In your weekly interactive webinar, you will receive expert advice, tutorials and training tips tailored to your needs to enhance your running experience and help you meet your personal goals. These will cover a range of topics such as core, strength & conditioning, nutrition, psychology, and race day preparation. You'll be able to ask your coach questions through the webinars and your group forum.
Meet the Coaches
Regional Coaching Lead for Endurance (North)
Darren has been coaching for over 14 years, working with athletes of all abilities, from beginners through to International athletes. He has been England Team Coach and Team Manager and numerous international events throughout Europe, and is the England Team Manager for the Anglo Celtic Plate 100k. Alongside this he also delivers flying coach visits, tutors England Athletics workshops, and is actively involved in the delivery of the England Athletics Club Run programme.
Regional Coaching Lead for Endurance (South)
Tom has been coaching club and international athletes for over 10 years and coaches a number of current England and GB international athletes. Tom has a MSc in performance coaching from Stirling University and is Runners World UK head coach. Tom has been England endurance team staff at various road and track and field internationals over the past few years. Tom is also a level 3 advanced personal trainer with a specialism in sports conditioning.
THE 14 WEEK PROGRAMME
The Virtual Coach 10K training programme starts on 13th July and lasts 14 weeks:
- Weeks 1 – 12 (including 2 week free trial period) – training plans and support
- Week 13 - virtual 10k competition just for your coach's group
- Week 14 – recovery sessions
During September 2020 registrations will open for training programmes across a range of other distances.
